This smart shoulder bag is made of recycled polyester in the mini Unikko pattern. The bag has an adjustable shoulder strap that is made of recycled polyamide. The small bag has a zipper closure, a zipper pocket and the Marimekko label on the front, and a slip-in pocket on the inside where the whole bag can be folded away for easy storage.
A young Maija Isola designed this abstracted pattern of poppies in 1964 after being told that Marimekko would never produce a floral print. Over four decades and countless color combinations, Unikko remains Marimekko’s most enduring pattern.
Founded in 1951 by visionary Finnish textile designer Armi Raitia and her husband, Viljo, Marimekko grew from a small textile-printing firm into an international phenomenon. From its beginnings as a textile design company, Marimekko (meaning “Mary’s dress”) branched out into everything from toys to dinnerware to architecture, becoming something of a lifestyle brand in the 1960s and 70s. The company’s outstanding designers revolutionized modern printed fabrics and fashion. Today the company continues to collaborate with young artists, encouraging experimentation. The result is spirited, non-traditional patterns and vivid colors.
