Pinnat Suvikimppu Socks
SKU: 094333-153M
$36.00

Made in Portugal, these socks are a cozy cotton blend. Choose your size from the dropdown. The buoyant Suvikimppu (summer bouquet) print presents a beautiful explosion of summer flowers. Renowned for her floral designs, Lotta Maija sketched this small-scaled pattern by hand using gouache paints.

A young Maija Isola designed this abstracted pattern of poppies in 1964 after being told that Marimekko would never produce a floral print. Over four decades and countless color combinations, Unikko remains Marimekko’s most enduring pattern.

Founded in 1951 by visionary Finnish textile designer Armi Raitia and her husband, Viljo, Marimekko grew from a small textile-printing firm into an international phenomenon. From its beginnings as a textile design company, Marimekko (meaning “Mary’s dress”) branched out into everything from toys to dinnerware to architecture, becoming something of a lifestyle brand in the 1960s and 70s. The company’s outstanding designers revolutionized modern printed fabrics and fashion. Today the company continues to collaborate with young artists, encouraging experimentation. The result is spirited, non-traditional patterns and vivid colors.
